Most people hear the terms “Mac” and “PC” but they often think they’re the same thing. Which in some aspects they are. However, Macs are Macintosh computers owned specifically by Apple. PCs, which stands for “Personal Computer”, are owned by several different companies that run with windows such as Dell, Lenovo, Sony, and Asus.

Macs and PCs have different operating systems. Mac computer use systems that are designed by Apple. PCs use Windows that operates on different systems made by Microsoft. Macs come with their on security system which make them less prone to viruses. On PCs you have to install software to protect your computer with viruses because malware is more frequent in PCs. This is because they are more commonly used. Nowadays, PCs usually come with Windows 8.1 preinstalled while Macs run OS X Mavericks.

PCs are produced more often than Macs due to their prices. PCs are usually bought because of their affordable prices. Macs are usually more expensive and can cost around $1000. This is because they claim to be better performing and more reliable. You can buy Macs mainly in Apple stores, since they are owned by Apple. PCs however, can be bought in a variety of different stores like Wal-Mart. That is why there is a greater selection of Windows PCs than Macs in stores.

Compared to PCs, Macs have a limited customization options whether it’s certain software, hardware or features. For example, if you wanted to replace a CPU or upgrade RAM, you wouldn’t be able to do it on Macs since you can only do it with PCs. PCs have a much wider range. PCs also offer bonus features like HDMI ports, touch screens, and Blue-Ray players. Macs only have ports that are compatible for the USB. Windows are compatible with any source.

Since Adobe Photoshop was specifically designed for Macs, they have better graphics than PCs. If you were a graphic designer that needed a computer, Macs would be your best bet. Due to being higher quality, Macs are mainly used for those in the creative professional field such as journalism or video editing. PCs are universal and are mostly used by business people and gamers. Gamers us PCs more than Macs because of the greater selection and wider variety of games available for Windows.

There has always been a constant feud between Mac and PC users. However, they both have their strengths and their weaknesses. A Mac may do something that PCs don’t or vice versa. It all comes down to the situation of someone and what they are looking for. If they need an affordable computer that is customizable, they should consider getting a PC. If someone doesn’t mind paying the full price of an Apple computer and is looking for a computer with better graphics, a Mac should come to mind when buying a computer. It all comes down to their preference.
